Yatagarasu is a locally focused yakitori and chicken restaurant a few minutes' walk from Kintetsu Nara Station. The operator highlights Yamato Nikudori, a Nara-developed regional chicken, alongside skewers, chicken dishes and hot-pot courses. Nara Prefecture describes Yamato Nikudori as a crossbred local brand with a rich flavour and a firmer texture than ordinary chicken; the restaurant's own menu is the source for what is actually served here. The room combines a counter for solo diners with tables and semi-private sunken-floor seating, while the drinks list includes local sake and tasting sets. It is a casual evening meal rather than a temple-side café, so check the last order, current menu and booking terms before planning a late dinner.
Taste a Nara chicken with a more substantial bite
Yamato Nikudori was developed in Nara to revive the reputation of Yamato kashiwa. The prefecture describes its flavour as rich, with moderate firmness and fat; the livestock association says the brand is raised for at least 120 days under a unified feed standard. Yatagarasu says it buys fresh chicken from contracted farms and serves it grilled skewered, as assorted cuts and in other chicken dishes. The restaurant's current page lists grilled Yamato thigh, skewers and hot pots, but products and availability can change. The breed's regional story is useful context, not a guarantee that every item or cut will be available on a particular night.
Build a meal from skewers, shared dishes or hot pot
The operator's menu checked for this guide lists individual skewers, a five-skewer assortment at ¥850, and several chicken dishes. Its current recommended items include sukiyaki, mizutaki and chanko hot pots; published course examples start at ¥2,500, with some courses requiring at least two diners. A two-hour all-you-can-drink option is offered on selected courses. These are dated menu examples, not fixed prices or a promise that each course is available every day. Check the linked menu or reservation page for the date, party size, course conditions and tax-inclusive total. The shop advertises chicken sashimi; its own notice warns that raw meat carries food-poisoning risk and advises children, older adults and people with reduced resistance to avoid it.
Choose a seat and a drink to match the visit
The operator lists counter seating, tables, tatami-style sunken-floor seats and semi-private rooms. Its booking information reports 55 seats in total, though seating plans can change. A counter makes the restaurant workable for one person; groups may prefer to request a table or semi-private area when booking. The drinks page highlights sake from breweries, an original house bottle, sake tasting sets and craft-beer flights. Ask which local labels and tasting sets are available that evening rather than assuming the advertised selection is unchanged.
Arrive on foot and check the booking terms
The restaurant is at 13-1 Hayashikoji-cho, on the first floor of the Dai-2 Fukuda Building. The operator estimates five minutes from Kintetsu Nara Station and about ten minutes from JR Nara Station. It currently lists service from 17:00, closing at 23:30 Tuesday through Saturday and 22:30 on Sundays and public holidays, with last orders 30 minutes before closing. Monday is shown as the regular closing day, with occasional changes possible. Online booking is linked from the operator page. The page notes a one-drink minimum per person (excluding children), and says same-day cancellations or no-shows may incur a fee. Confirm any dietary, allergy, language or seating needs directly; the official listing does not promise an English menu or English-language service.
