Hotel OBANA stands on the south-eastern edge of central Nara, where the walks toward Naramachi and the park can begin from the same base. Its name recalls the former Obanaza cinema on this site, a connection the hotel itself keeps alive through film events. The reason to compare it with a station-front hotel is not a generic room label: the operator pairs different room sizes with a Japanese restaurant, a library of local guides and a breakfast that introduces several Nara foods before a day of sightseeing. The official booking plan, not the prefectural directory's price or parking claim, should settle what a particular stay includes.
Choose the actual room, not just a hotel category
The operator lists compact 11.2-square-metre singles and 16.8–19-square-metre twins. Its two 33.6-square-metre superior twins add Yoshino cypress lamps and Yoshino cedar chairs, a separate bathroom layout and south-facing windows. These are distinct room types; do not assume the wider layout or hill view for a standard twin. The room page displays reference rates, while the hotel's FAQ says rates change with availability. Check the current dated booking offer, taxes, guest count and cancellation terms before paying.
Taste a regional breakfast with its own schedule
The hotel's Japanese restaurant serves the 'Yamato blessings' breakfast in the basement. Its menu introduces tea porridge, Nara pickles, Miwa somen and local vegetables alongside familiar breakfast dishes; it explicitly warns that ingredients and dishes vary. The published October 2026 breakfast charge is ¥2,200 including tax, with 7:00–10:00 service and a 9:30 order stop. The operator has already announced a rise to ¥2,530 from 2 March 2027, linked to stays from 1 March. It also announced 2027 revised prices for Japanese cuisine: dinner from ¥7,700 and lunch courses from ¥5,280; these future prices should not be mistaken for the October 2026 menu. Check the operator notice and dated reservation before ordering. A room-only reservation does not automatically include this meal; check the plan or ask reception.
Make the first and last day easier
Ordinary check-in begins at 15:00 and checkout is by 11:00, although a particular plan can allow later departure. Reception accepts luggage before check-in and after checkout, making a walk through Naramachi or toward the park practical without bags. The hotel says staff are present around the clock, but guests arriving later than their stated time should contact it to avoid a possible cancellation. Payment is normally taken at check-in. The lobby's Nara guidebooks and free Wi-Fi are useful for checking the next day's route.
Treat parking and access as separate decisions
The operator lists an affiliated car park south of the hotel: 14 spaces, ¥1,200 for 15:00–11:00, and no reservations. If it is full, another lot may charge a different price. This conflicts with the prefectural English directory's statement that hotel parking is free; use the operator's current access page. The directory estimates eight minutes from Kintetsu Nara, but its JR walking estimate and the actual route differ. Follow the official address 1110 Takabatakecho rather than the directory's English '110' typo, and check your own luggage-friendly route.
Plan facilities without assuming a spa
A third-floor coin laundry, a reading corner and the Japanese restaurant are described on the hotel's facility pages. The hotel mentions a ticket for a local public bath, which is not the same as an on-site spa and should be checked for its current terms. Its listed accessible toilets do not prove every guest room or route is step-free. Ask the hotel about room and entrance access for a specific mobility requirement. If you hope to dine at the restaurant, confirm its service separately from the breakfast or room booking.
