Asuka's historic sites are spread across fields and village lanes, making a bicycle useful for visitors who want more freedom than a bus timetable allows. Asuka Rental Cycle has a counter at Kintetsu Asuka Station and other company branches near key sites. The useful choice is not simply whether to ride: ordinary and electric-assist bikes, a permitted drop-off branch, the return hour and the road conditions all change the day. This page marks the station-area counter approximately, not the company's separate Misono head office.
Find the correct counter
The operator locates its Asuka Station branch at Koshi 13-1 in the station rotary and says to look to the right beyond the ticket gate. Its head office is at Misono 138-6, a different address also used by older directory listings. Start at the station counter if arriving by train; do not route yourself to the head office merely because a directory labels it 'Asuka'.
Choose a bike for the terrain
The operator lists standard cycles, electric-assist cycles, children’s sizes from 18 inches and a limited number of child-seat bikes. Its FAQ says it lends helmets but does not offer bikes with training wheels. The lanes are not all protected cycle paths: some riding is on roads with cars, and the climb toward Ishibutai is noticeable. Ask the counter about availability, child fit and the route before leaving.
Use the detailed current bicycle tariff
The operator's detailed cycle page and English guide list a standard cycle at ¥1,200 per day and an electric-assist cycle at ¥1,700. An older company overview still shows ¥900/¥1,000 for standard cycles and ¥1,500 for electric; that overview has not been updated in step with the detailed pages. Kintetsu's Asuka day-ticket page also gives ¥1,200 for a standard cycle. Ask the station counter for the actual bike, today's price and any applicable ticket or website coupon before paying.
A one-way return is conditional
The operator says a bike can be returned to one of its own other branches for a separate ¥200 drop-off charge. Its Asuka Station route page lists nearby historic sites as a sample itinerary, while the operator FAQ names its own branches as the only drop-off points; a random cycle shop is not a return point. Ask at pickup which counters are open on your date. The operator permits next-day return for two days' rental but cautions against riding after dark.
Keep the last hour realistic
The operator lists 9:00–17:00 service and says rain may affect opening. Its FAQ warns that child-seat bikes are few and that stock can run short during Golden Week. The current Kintetsu Asuka day-ticket page lists this station counter as 9:00–17:00, closed 29 December–3 January, and says booking rules vary by shop and season. It also offers a ¥200 cycle discount with an eligible digital day ticket; card-ticket holders receive discount coupons under separate terms. Confirm current ticket conditions and opening before travel. Plan your final site so you can ride back within the return window, and keep 0744-54-3919 for breakdowns or lost keys. A rented bicycle is transport, not entry to any tomb, museum or temple.
