A former school in Sugano now serves as Mitsue's Experience Exchange Center. The village describes its wooden classrooms and rural setting as a green-tourism learning base and explicitly says it can also serve as a rest stop for people walking the Ise Honkaidō. Room hire requires a village application and approval; casual rest, approved room use and event attendance are different ways to use the property. Its 101-metre corridor was the setting for the Zōkin Dash and Marche held on 12 October 2026. That dated event made a striking school feature visible to visitors, but does not establish a year-round, drop-in race or classroom tour.
Use the former school as an Ise-road rest stop when it is open
The village's page, updated 30 April 2026, says the former wooden school is a green-tourism base and a rest place for Ise Honkaidō walkers. It has four experience rooms, two training rooms and an agricultural-processing room available through the village application system. The tourism brochure calls out the 101-metre corridor; the village and association do not promise a guided tour or access to every classroom during an ordinary rest stop. Normal public hours and closure days are set by the village rule. Check that today's entrance and facilities are open before making a detour, and do not enter hired rooms or staff areas without permission.
Room hire is an application, with separate room prices
The village's 30 April 2026 page and its management rule list four experience rooms, two training rooms and one agricultural-processing room. The smaller rooms cost ¥400 for up to four hours, then ¥100 for each extra hour, or ¥600 for a full day; the processing room is ¥800, then ¥200, or ¥1,200 for a day. These are room-use tariffs, not per-person class tickets or a promise of an instructor. Heating adds ¥150 per room-hour and a paid event can double the room tariff. The published rule requires an application to the village at least three days before use and accepts it from three months before the date, subject to approval and exceptions. Ask the village for the present form, permitted purpose, equipment and final total before inviting a group.
Check the actual calendar for workshops and the corridor race
Older prefectural craft listings mention bamboo work and old tour pages mention food and other school experiences, but several are marked cancelled or have expired dates. The exchange center's current village page is primarily a room-hire notice; it does not supply a recurring 2026 walk-in menu. The 2026 Zōkin Dash and Mitsue Marche took place on 12 October and are already over as of this review. The same school may host a future event, but dates, admission, registration and filming rules belong to that year's organiser. For a genuine hands-on activity, ask the tourism association's separate experience contact what is currently bookable, for whom and where; do not assume it is at this building.
Check the weekday calendar and keep the two school sites separate
The village rule sets normal opening at 09:00–17:00, with Saturday/Sunday closures and year-end dates; the village can open on a closed day for an authorised event. The 12 October 2026 race was a specific public-holiday event, not evidence of routine weekend access. Shinoda-tei, a separate information desk in Sugano, directs drivers to the exchange-center lot about a minute away, but parking access depends on the center's own arrangements; confirm availability before relying on it. Do not confuse this village rest/room-hire building with Sankikan, the separate former school in Momonomata used for booked group lodging. Tsue-mi-go has three seats and requires a phone booking; non-residents pay ¥300 per ride in cash. Ask whether this exact address is served and reserve a return before travelling.
