Nara Guesthouse 3F occupies the third floor of the Arte Building in Konishicho, between central Nara's covered shopping streets and Kintetsu Nara Station. Its layout centres on a shared lounge with a large horse-chestnut table, with guest rooms and shower rooms around it. Depending on the booking arrangement, it can be rented exclusively to one group or sold room by room; that distinction changes whether the lounge, kitchen, toilets and showers are private or shared. The guesthouse is well placed for walking toward Kofuku-ji and the park, but it is an upstairs stay inside a busy retail building, not a detached historic inn. Its own English and Japanese pages disagree on the maximum group size, so confirm occupancy with the operator before booking.
Understand the two booking arrangements
The operator's house rules state that a whole-house booking is for one group only, with the lounge, kitchen, two shower rooms and toilets exclusive to that group. The main page describes Japanese-style rooms, western twins and a bunk-bed dormitory. Its Japanese overview says up to 14 guests, while the English overview says up to 17; a separate FAQ says a full-house rental can host 17. This is a material discrepancy, not a promise of extra beds. Ask the operator to confirm the maximum permitted guests and sleeping layout for your specific booking. The Visit Nara directory describes four rooms, but does not override the operator's current booking terms.
Use the shared table, kitchen and laundry as group facilities
The lounge's centrepiece is described as a single slab of Japanese horse chestnut from a tree about 250 years old. The kitchen has cooking utensils, appliances and tableware, with the operator's FAQ stating that supplies are available for about 17 people; guests are asked to wash and return items. The main page lists a refrigerator, microwave, toaster and free washer and dryer. These facilities make the property suited to groups preparing simple meals and sharing time indoors, but the operator does not describe it as a catered stay. Check which kitchen and laundry facilities are included in a room-only booking where the house is not exclusively rented.
Arrive by self check-in after completing the guest register
The operator's house rules were updated on 18 October 2026. They list self check-in from 16:00 to 22:00 and checkout at 10:00. Guests must complete the online register for everyone by the day before arrival; overseas residents are asked to upload each guest's passport. The entrance PIN is provided only after the required information is checked. Follow the instructions in your booking correspondence and never share the access code; MyNara does not publish it. Ask the operator how the whole-floor arrangement applies to your booking: the updated rules describe an exclusive group stay, while the FAQ also explains a room-by-room option with shared spaces.
Reach the third floor from the station and arcade
The operator's directions begin at Kintetsu Nara Station's south exit, then follow Konishi-dori about 100 metres, turn left at the first corner, continue about 50 metres and enter the Arte Building. An elevator is at the back of the building; the guesthouse is to the right after leaving it on the third floor. The site estimates two minutes from the station. Nara Prefecture's directory says one minute, so allow a little more time to locate the entrance and elevator. JR Nara is farther away; choose a current bus or walking route based on luggage and weather.
Plan car access and quiet hours in the building
There is no dedicated parking. The guesthouse is in a pedestrian-oriented shopping street where cars cannot enter the immediate block; its September 2026 parking map points guests toward paid lots on or near Yasuragi-no-michi. Confirm current price, vehicle height and availability directly with each lot. The operator's rules also say the building's first-floor shutter closes after 23:00 and ask guests to avoid going out after that time; if an unavoidable late entry is needed, use only the current arrival instructions supplied by the host. No unregistered visitors are allowed, and the property prohibits smoking, pets and noisy or alcohol-centred parties.
Use the location for a walkable first or last day
The operator says Kofuku-ji's precinct is roughly 100 metres east, with food and shopping close by. Its neighbourhood page lists supermarkets, convenience stores, a 100-yen shop, pharmacies and cafés within roughly 300 metres. A morning walk can continue from the Kintetsu side into Kofuku-ji and Nara Park; a separate longer visit can take in Naramachi or the Nara National Museum. Walking distances do not make the whole route level or step-free. Contact the operator about lift dimensions, thresholds, shower access and room layout if anyone in the group needs mobility accommodations.
