Sun Village Soni, also known as the Okukochi Auto Campground, is a practical base for exploring Soni's highland and cliff scenery. It is not only a tent campground: the operator offers cottages and bungalows for visitors who want beds and indoor facilities, as well as group pitches and a roofed barbecue building. The choice changes what you need to bring. Cottages have kitchens and bathrooms, while tent and bungalow guests rely more on shared facilities. A useful detail for international travellers is that reservations and rules are managed directly by the operator, with limited credit-card brands accepted on site and an online booking route.
Choose the accommodation that fits your group
The operator lists 26 powered tent pitches, nine five-person cottages and four bungalows for groups of four to eight. It also has two multipurpose rooms, each listed for up to 12 people. Tent pitches are grass and have AC power; cottage A and B layouts differ, and cottage B includes connected two-family units. Confirm the exact unit and capacity at booking, especially if you need an accessible cottage or want pitches together: the operator says assignments are generally made in reservation order and adjacent placement is not guaranteed.
Know what to pack
Cottages include a kitchen, basic cookware and tableware, beds, air-conditioning and Wi-Fi. The FAQ says towels, shampoo, body wash, soap and hair dryers are not supplied. A barbecue area does not automatically include a grill: check whether to bring or rent equipment. Tent-site guests have nearby cooking and sanitation facilities, hot-water showers and shared laundry; the facility map lists electricity at 15A or 20A depending on the site group. The operator's current equipment list is the best last check before departure.
Rates and check-in vary by stay type
The operator's published base prices rechecked 20 October 2026 are ¥5,500 per individual tent pitch and ¥14,000 for the three-group pitch per night; cottages A/B are ¥24,000/¥22,000 per night for up to five, and six-tatami bungalows are ¥8,500 for four or ¥9,500 for six to eight. Cottages receive a ¥2,000 weekday discount outside peak dates. Tent check-in is 14:00–17:00 and checkout is noon; cottages check in 15:00–17:00 and check out at 10:00. Rates, add-ons and availability can change, so use the operator's live booking page before paying.
Book directly and understand the cancellation terms
Phone bookings open on the first day of the third month before the stay; online bookings open at midnight on the second day, according to the operator. The listed cancellation charge is zero through one week before arrival, 50% from one week to two days before, and 100% the day before and day of arrival. The operator says cancellations must be made through the same channel used to book; email is not accepted. Availability is refreshed weekly on Thursday and may change before a phone reservation is completed.
Plan the drive and final approach
The operator gives the address as 911-1 Imai, Soni Village, and specifically advises drivers coming from Osaka or Kyoto to use Hari Interchange and National Route 369. It warns that some navigation systems may choose very narrow roads from other interchanges. Local bus services in Soni are limited, and no verified direct bus-and-walk itinerary to this campground was found in the operator's current access page; contact the campground before relying on public transport. Each accommodation unit and ordinary auto pitch has one parking space; the FAQ gives extra capacity for group sites and multipurpose rooms.
Use the shared amenities responsibly
The operator lists hot showers, coin laundry, a bathhouse, a kitchen building and a covered barbecue building. Its main price page lists the six-person, two-hour BBQ building at ¥5,000, but the FAQ currently says ¥3,000 plus a ¥150 rubbish bag; call to confirm the applicable tariff before booking. The FAQ says the bathhouse is generally open Saturdays 16:30–20:30, with holiday and peak-period exceptions. The operator bans fireworks throughout the grounds. Pets are permitted only at tent site C according to the facility information; the covered BBQ building does not allow pets. The FAQ cautions that nearby rivers can become dangerous after upstream rain or rising water, so do not assume swimming is safe. Check weather and the operator's latest notices, keep noise low in the evening and follow posted fire and waste rules.
