Himeishi-no-Yu: Mitsue's Roadside Hot Spring
Finish a Mitsue walk or drive with an indoor and outdoor bath, or reserve a separate accessible family bath; check the Tuesday and transport rules first.

Himeishi-no-Yu is a day-use natural hot spring inside Ise Honkaidō Mitsue roadside station, where the village's mountain routes meet a produce market and casual food counter. Its two communal bath settings, Mimine (wood) and Obora (stone), alternate between men and women by date, so the room pictured online may not be the one available on your visit. The place takes its name from Himeishi Myōjin and a local story about Princess Yamato; treat that as local tradition rather than a medical claim about the spring. Beyond ordinary admission, the operator offers a separately booked private bath with eligibility conditions and lists a visiting bodywork service on selected days. This is a useful pause after a walk or drive, but its roadside-station location is not a hotel stay and there is no confirmed direct shuttle from Nara City. Plan your return before bathing, particularly if you arrive by the infrequent regional bus.
Choose the public baths for a flexible stop
Mitsue's operator describes a simple natural spring with indoor baths, outdoor stone or wooden tubs, a sauna, cold bath and rest area. The tourism association names the wood-themed side Mimine and the stone-themed side Obora. Men and women switch sides on alternating dates; the operator says men use the wooden bath on odd-numbered dates and the stone bath on even dates, with the reverse for women, but notes that the arrangement can change. Check the posted assignment on arrival rather than relying on a photo. The name is linked in local tradition to Himeishi Myōjin and Princess Yamato, not to a verified therapeutic effect.
Know the admission and what to bring
The operator's page checked 20 October 2026 lists public-bath admission at ¥900 for adults and ¥400 for ages three through elementary school; Visit Nara says children under three enter free. Shampoo, conditioner, body soap, dryers and valuables lockers are provided. A small towel is sold for ¥200 and a bath towel is rented for ¥120 according to the operator, so travellers arriving without one have a practical option. The operator lists cash, credit cards and several QR payments for the bath, but its on-site Uguisu food counter does not take credit cards. Confirm today's total, accepted card brand and any tattoo, bathing-assistance or children's rules with staff; these were not established by the reviewed page.
Reserve Nadeshiko only if its conditions fit
Nadeshiko is a separately reserved one-hour private bath, not an upgrade included with public admission. The operator says its private room has indoor and outdoor baths, handrails, a multipurpose toilet, level entry from the changing area and a shower chair; a wheelchair can enter the room, but this alone does not establish that every part of the building or bathing transfer is barrier-free. Use is limited to five people including bathers. The ¥2,600 care-bath rate requires a care or disability certificate; the ¥3,300 family-bath rate is for specified cases, including families with a child in third grade or younger, people who cannot comfortably use a shared bath, or visitors who cannot bathe alone. Confirm eligibility, certificate requirements, assistance and the exact booking slot directly. Call 0745-95-2641 and select voice-menu option 2, or ask at reception; the posted phone window is 09:30–20:00. The operator says coupons do not apply to this private bath and does not promise bathing-care staff.
Keep the food and market schedules separate
The on-site Uguisu self-service dining and rest area is open to non-bathers. The operator lists 11:00–20:00, last order 19:00, an 80-tatami rest room and table seats. Its menu currently gives village egg rice at ¥800, deer-fry curry at ¥1,600 and the local Tsue Churros at ¥600; dishes and prices can change with supply. Orders go through a ticket machine, and a monitor and announcement call the number when food is ready. The village tourism association says the separate Yamazakura dining room has been closed since September 2023, so a directory's general restaurant description should not be taken as proof that every dining room is open. The roadside produce market has separate hours, 10:00–17:00, and seasonal village vegetables and preserved foods. These services share the same stop but have their own hours, payments and admission rules.
Check whether the visiting bodywork service is running
The operator's page lists a separate Nasu visiting-bodywork service at the site on Thursdays and Saturdays and the first and third Wednesdays of each month, 16:00–18:00. The posted examples are ¥1,500 for ten minutes or ¥4,000 for thirty minutes, with booking available through the practitioner. The operator explicitly says acupuncture is not performed at Himeishi-no-Yu. Because this service is provided separately from the bath and may change, confirm the session and make any booking with the practitioner before planning around it.
Build in travel time and the Tuesday exception
The operator's access page places the bath at Kōzue 6330, where routes 368 and 369 meet. It estimates about 60 minutes' drive from Hari IC via Haibara or from Ueno IC via Nabari; traffic and mountain weather can change that. From Kintetsu Nabari Station it lists a Mie Kotsu bus toward Shikitsu, roughly 60 minutes, then one minute on foot, but the PDF linked on the access page is dated October 2025. Check the bus company's current timetable and the return service before leaving the station. The bath lists 11:00–20:00, final entry 19:30, and Tuesday closure except public holidays with a possible substitute closure, plus New Year's Day. The adjacent produce market has its own hours, so arriving for a late bath is not a guarantee of shopping or dinner.

Miune Rime Ice Festival
Mitsue Tourism Association describes the Rime Ice Festival as an annual winter gathering at Mitsue Youth Travel Village, the trailhead-side base for Mount Miune. Recent editions have run on weekends and public holidays over about eleven dates from mid-January to mid-February, with local products, summit-stamp rewards and seasonal visitor services. This is a festival at the village, not a ticketed event on the mountain summit. Confirm each year's schedule, weather response, trail conditions and transport before planning a climb.
