Hotel Asyl Nara Annex sits west of central Nara, between the Heijō Palace area and the roads toward the temples of Nishinokyō. It makes particular sense for a car-based trip, a group or a traveller who values a larger room and a shared bath. It is not the similarly named Hotel Asyl Nara beside the city-centre stations. From Shin-Omiya the Annex is a substantial walk, so rail travellers should decide in advance whether to walk, check a current local bus or take a taxi. The hotel itself lists several quite different room layouts; choose the actual room and meal plan rather than relying on the word 'Annex'.
Compare beds, tatami and step-free needs
The operator lists 81 rooms. Its 20–25 m² twins sleep two, or three if the third guest uses an extra or sofa bed. A six-tatami room is 20 m² and is sold for one to three guests, while the 40 m² sixteen-tatami room accommodates two to six. Guests lay out their own futons in those Japanese rooms. The 40 m² barrier-free room has an entrance ramp, reduced level changes and two beds, but the exact bathroom and route should be confirmed before reserving for a mobility need. The single room is 16–17 m², is designated smoking and is on the sixth floor reached by stairs from the fifth; it is unsuitable for someone who cannot use those stairs. The English hotel page gives a simpler room overview, but the current Japanese room descriptions carry these important distinctions.
Fit the communal bath around your day
The hotel advertises a large shared bath free to overnight guests, with posted periods of 06:00–12:00 and 16:00–24:00. Its usual men’s and women’s baths are on the second and third floors, but the operator says it sometimes swaps floors or runs one bath in alternating time slots depending on group bookings. Maintenance and group use can also interrupt access; check its bath calendar for your date. The page does not describe this as a natural hot spring. Its rules bar tattoos, including temporary ones, as well as intoxicated bathers; ask the hotel before paying if this could affect a member of your party.
Treat breakfast and dinner as separate choices
The ground-floor Churrasco Sue restaurant serves the hotel's breakfast buffet from 06:30 to 09:00, with last order at 08:30. The operator gives examples such as beans, salad, chicken ham and egg with kōya-dōfu, but a sample buffet is not a daily promise or a vegetarian guarantee. Confirm whether breakfast is included in the selected room plan. The same restaurant advertises Brazilian-style churrasco and a salad bar for weekend and holiday lunch, plus evening service, with Wednesday and Thursday ordinarily closed unless a holiday. Check its own opening calendar and make a separate dinner arrangement rather than assuming every hotel booking includes a meal.
Work out the last mile before arrival
The hotel states around 20 minutes on foot from Kintetsu Shin-Omiya Station. Its nearby bus stops are Sanjōōji 1-chōme and Shijōōji 2-chōme, both within about a minute’s walk; the route numbers printed on the hotel site are explicitly dated December 2022. Search Nara Kotsu for current services from Shin-Omiya, JR Nara or Kintetsu Nara before travelling. The hotel lists 48 ordinary-car spaces free for facility users, with no height restriction stated in its FAQ. Oversized vehicles and buses have daily charges and require contact about a month in advance. Ask the desk about parking before check-in or after checkout.
Read the booking conditions, especially for a group
The operator lists check-in from 15:00 and checkout by 11:00. Its FAQ asks guests arriving after 23:00 to call, even though the entrance remains accessible overnight, and says luggage can be held before check-in or after checkout. Nonsmoking-room requests may become deodorised-room assignments when the limited inventory fills. The hotel's rooms page and FAQ show different cancellation percentages for the day before and day of arrival; inspect the actual dated reservation's terms or obtain direct confirmation instead of treating either static page as the contract. Room prices also depend on the date, party and meal plan.
