Shizukyo-no-Yado Sansui is a small inn in Hiratani, within Totsukawa Onsen in Nara's deep south. The village's current accommodation directory lists it as a hot-spring ryokan, gives a two-meal starting price and identifies weekday-only solo-stay availability. That makes this a practical base for a slow mountain itinerary rather than a quick stop on a Nara City day trip. The inn's own legacy website could not be reached during this research, so room layouts, meal composition, bath arrangements and booking terms remain deliberately unclaimed until the property confirms them.
Read the village listing as a starting point
Totsukawa Village currently lists Shizukyo-no-Yado Sansui at 946-1 Hiratani, telephone 0746-64-0402. Its directory shows ¥15,000 and up, with a ¥20,600-and-up note for Golden Week, Obon and New Year, and says these are minimum per-person prices including tax and bathing tax for two meals. Those figures are a village directory reference, not a quote for a particular date, room, party size or plan. Request the complete total, cancellation terms, payment methods and meal details from the inn before committing.
Confirm the room and solo-stay rules
The village listing says solo travel is accepted on weekdays only. It gives a capacity of 24, while the English Visit Nara directory describes nine rooms; these are not the same measure and the currently reachable operator material did not settle the discrepancy. This guide therefore does not promise a room count, room size, private bath, river view, accessibility feature or English-language service. Ask for the exact room type, sleeping arrangement, stairs, bathroom arrangement and language support for the booking date.
Treat the hot spring as an inn stay
The village groups Sansui among the inns of Totsukawa Onsen and describes the village's spring-water policy as direct flow without circulation, reheating, chlorination or dilution. That village-wide statement explains the destination's hot-spring context; it does not establish Sansui's current bath hours, gender-separated layout, private-bath availability, day-use access or water temperature. Ask the property which bathing facilities are included with your plan, when they operate and whether any maintenance or restrictions apply.
Build a trip around the long approach
Totsukawa Village describes the Nara Kotsu Yagi–Shingū route to Totsukawa Onsen as about four hours and twenty minutes, with limited daily departures. Visit Nara's venue card instead shows 140 minutes from Kintetsu Yagi, a conflicting and much shorter estimate; use the current operator timetable for the travel date and do not plan from that older directory duration. Confirm the nearest stop, luggage handling and any transfer or hotel pickup directly with the inn. By car, check Route 168 conditions and allow for a long mountain-road journey.
Leave time for the valley
Totsukawa Onsen is a remote village base for river landscapes, mountain roads and sections of the Kumano Kodo Kohechi. The village's walking itinerary recommends an overnight stay in the hot-spring area as part of a multi-day route; that does not mean every trailhead is near the inn or that luggage transfer, transport and trail conditions are included. Choose day walks only after checking distance, elevation, weather, bus connections and the return journey. The village's public baths and other inns are separate facilities with their own access and opening conditions.

Totsukawa Village's annual calendar places this late-August Saturday festival at the multipurpose field of Subaru-no-Sato in Totsukawa Onsen. The 2024 village report records about 1,800 visitors for that edition; this is a past-edition figure, not an annual attendance estimate.
