Shubo Aya is an evening restaurant in the Arte Building on Konishi Sakura-dori, a short walk south of Kintetsu Nara Station. Its current operator page centres on seafood dishes and sake, including a rotating selection described as sourced directly from fishing communities in Maizuru. That makes the menu depend on what is available, rather than a fixed list of local specialities. The venue moved from Takamacho to Konishicho; the Visit Nara listing still displays the old address, so use the operator's current address and telephone number when navigating or booking. The restaurant is a practical dinner option near the station, with its own menu, opening schedule and reservation rules to verify before a visit.
Choose seafood by the day's catch
The operator describes selecting fish and seasonal ingredients each day. Its published menu currently highlights a seven-kind sashimi assortment at ¥2,530, while three- and five-kind versions may also be available. The exact fish can change with supply; treat the web menu as a dated example and ask what is available that evening. Other listed dishes range from small plates to grilled, fried and simmered items. If you have allergies, dietary restrictions or questions about raw seafood, explain them directly to staff before ordering.
Try a tasting flight of Japanese sake
The current operator page offers a three-sake tasting selected from the day's recommendations for ¥1,320. The list changes as bottles sell out and is shown on an in-store board, so availability and pour sizes should be confirmed on arrival. Nara Prefecture's restaurant listing also describes locally sourced dishes and a broad sake selection, but individual labels and prices are not guaranteed. Visitors unfamiliar with sake can ask staff to describe the styles; the old Visit Nara record says spoken foreign-language support is not available, so a translation app or prepared phrase may help.
Book the right table for your group
The operator lists four tables for four and one private room for six. It also advertises semi-private arrangements and small-group hire by enquiry; the exact layout and availability depend on the date. Online reservations are linked from the operator site, and telephone reservations are available at 0742-25-0272. A published seven-item sashimi plate and a sake flight can help set expectations, but no fixed tasting course is promised by this guide. Check the current menu, group conditions and any cancellation terms with the restaurant before committing.
Use the current address and evening hours
The operator's current page gives the address as Arte Building, 5 Konishicho, Nara City, second floor, and hours Monday to Saturday from 17:00 to 23:30, with food and drink last orders at 22:30. Sundays and public holidays are listed as closed; building closure days or events may also affect service. The operator asks guests to contact the restaurant about exceptions. Kintetsu Nara Station Exit 4 is about a three-minute walk according to current venue information; JR Nara Station is farther away. Use the operator address, not the old Takamacho point still shown by some directories.
Check payment, language and access before arriving
The operator lists credit cards, transit IC and several QR payment services, including Alipay, but accepted methods can change. The restaurant is upstairs in a mixed-use building; the booking service lists an elevator, while on-site step-free access within the restaurant should be confirmed directly. The booking page offers interface translations, but that does not establish that staff can serve in those languages or that a full foreign-language menu is available. Published pages list an entrance charge of ¥400; confirm the current amount and any seasonal menu prices before ordering.
