The Tenri Trail Center is a practical hinge between the Yamanobe-no-Michi, the Yanagimoto historic sites and trails toward Mount Ryuo. The city describes a renewed public facility with a tourism concierge, local-history displays, deck, bicycle racks, showers and free Nordic-walking-pole lending. A separate restaurant operates in the building, but its service hours belong to that business, not to the public centre. It is best treated as a place to plan and pause, not a guarantee that every amenity is available at any hour.
Ask for a route suited to your day
Tenri City says a tourism concierge is normally present to advise on Yamanobe walking, cycling and the approach to Mount Ryuo. The site also provides local historical and cultural information. Before committing to a long walk, ask about terrain, time to a station, route signage and current closures; the centre's address is a starting point, not a guarantee that all trails are easy or circular.
Use the facilities with their own rules
The city lists showers, road-bike racks, an open deck, a local-products area and free Nordic-pole lending at the counter. It also mentions that poles can be borrowed or returned at the Tenri Station-area Kofun information lounge. Availability, deposit, shower conditions and final return time were not established from the checked page, so ask staff before relying on a particular service. Do not assume the restaurant is included in the centre's free public functions.
Separate restaurant hours from centre hours
The public centre is open 8:30–17:00 and closes on the first Monday each month. Yoshoku Katsui is a separate business in the building: its operator lists breakfast Tue–Sun 9:00–10:00, lunch/café Tue–Sun 11:00–16:30, dinner Thu–Sun and holidays 17:00–21:00 (last order 20:30), plus a limited Monday lunch 11:00–14:00 except on the centre's first-Monday closure. The operator lists sample lunch set prices from ¥1,800. Schedules and menus can change; check its live calendar and call 0743-67-3838 rather than assuming the public facility's hours apply to the restaurant.
Park considerately before a long hike
Tenri City warns that the centre's own parking may fill at midday on holidays. For a long Yamanobe walk or Ryuo hike it asks drivers to use nearby free municipal parking, including a lot about 100 metres west and the designated Kurotsuka Museum lot by Route 169. The latter is behind a convenience store, not the store's customer spaces. Check the city's map and on-site signs; parking availability is never guaranteed.
Link the short local circuit
Chogaku-ji and the Kurotsuka mound and museum are distinct nearby stops around Yanagimoto. The centre is the place to confirm which are open before setting off, especially because the museum has scheduled closure dates and the temple has its own fee. A local circuit can combine archaeology, Buddhist heritage and a stretch of the Yamanobe path, with transport to and from JR Yanagimoto planned separately.
