Tenri Kanko Farm makes the working agricultural landscape along the Yamanobe-no-Michi a visitor experience. Its hill has mandarin trees, while a roofed barbecue area and Cafe WaWa offer different ways to pause on a walk. The operator also advertises millet-rice-cake pounding by reservation. These are distinct services with different schedules and conditions: a date in the citrus season does not itself guarantee picking, a cafe meal or a workshop.
Visit for mandarins when the crop is ready
The farm describes the usual mandarin season as around mid-October to late November, while Nara Prefecture says picking continues only while the crop lasts and requires advance reservation. The operator does not publish a current picking price on its checked home page. Fruit and weather determine the real end date, so call before travelling, especially late in the season, and ask what the fee includes and whether take-home fruit is charged separately.
Plan a food stop as a separate booking
The current homepage notice gives the farm's seasonal service days: Thursday–Sunday in December–March and June–August, and Wednesday–Sunday in April–May and September–November. It lists cafe hours as 10:00–15:00 and barbecue as 11:00–20:00, with conditions after 15:00. An older block lower on that page still says the cafe runs 10:00–20:00. Use the newer notice as the lead and call to confirm the actual day, menu, ingredients and group requirements. The covered barbecue area has tables and grills; no current menu price was found.
Ask about making awa-mochi
The operator advertises pounding awa-mochi, a millet rice cake, as a reserved activity: five portions minimum, about 30–60 minutes, listed at ¥600 per portion. That price was announced as effective in March 2025, so reconfirm the current fee, group size, language support, allergens and available date when booking.
Walk in from Tenri with time in hand
The farm sits at 183 Sonoharacho on the Yamanobe walking route. The prefectural English directory estimates around fifty minutes on foot from JR or Kintetsu Tenri Station, while its green-tourism page estimates roughly forty; pace and route choice explain why these should be treated as ranges. The farm says its own parking is limited and asks larger groups to share cars. It mentions a conditional shuttle service, but that is not a scheduled public transport connection.
Read the ground rules before reserving
The farm's operator rules exclude pets, personal tents or tarps, outside stoves and generators, noisy games and smoking outside the designated area. It says credit cards cannot be used. Its published cancellation scale says free through seven days before, 50% from two days before through the day before, and 100% on the day, including reductions in headcount. It does not state the rule for six to three days before, so ask for the full terms in writing. The operator also says bad-weather refunds are unavailable after entry. Bad weather after entry may not trigger a refund.
