Yamaguchiya turns Dorogawa's water story into a short food stop rather than another distant viewpoint. The prefectural tourism directory and a September 2026 visit report describe a tofu maker of more than 90 years at 258 Dorogawa, serving freshly made tofu at a table outside and selling it to take away. The village identifies Gorogoro Mizu as one of three springs in the Dorogawa spring group chosen for Japan's Meisui Hyakusen list. That designation belongs to the spring group, not to a certified health property of each piece of tofu. A traveller can taste the plain tofu, then decide whether a chilled purchase will actually survive the rest of a mountain day.
Taste the village's water in a specific food tradition
The village explains that Dorogawa's selected spring group comprises Gorogoro Mizu, Izumi no Mori and Shinsendo. Yamaguchiya's tofu is described by Visit Nara and the September 2026 report as made with local spring water; the latter names Gorogoro Mizu. At the shop, the useful choice is a small ready-to-eat tofu plate rather than assuming every product is designed for a long hike. The recent report describes ginger-soy seasoning and a cup of soy milk, while an older village guide also lists tofu, fried tofu and hiro-su. Those are observed or directory offerings, not a guarantee that every product is on the counter on the visitor's date. The shop is a food producer, not a spring-water collection point or factory tour.
Choose eat-now or chilled takeaway
The prefectural entry says visitors can eat at a small table outside and should bring a container for tofu to take away. The village's older guide refers to a cooling box for a whole tofu pack, and the 2026 field report describes a small outdoor eating area. Ask staff what packaging is available now, how much cold holding the purchase requires and whether they can provide it. Do not leave fresh tofu in a warm backpack while touring caves or on a long bus connection. For the ready-to-eat plate, confirm whether the seating is available, whether the condiment contains wheat, and whether a plain serving is possible if soy, wheat or another ingredient is an issue. No vegan, halal or allergen-free preparation has been verified.
Read prices by date, not as a permanent menu
A Tenkawa Village shopping PDF from 2016 printed ¥300 for a whole tofu pack and ¥950 for a two-pack cooling-box set. A separate older village food PDF described ¥150 per plate and ¥100 for soy milk. By contrast, an on-site report published 8 September 2026 listed ¥200 for a tofu plate and ¥130 for soy milk, and said cash only. These are snapshots from different dates, not an operator's live price list. Check the board or ask before ordering; do not plan on the decade-old takeaway price, a card terminal, free packaging, or a fixed portion size. The recent report also mentions the shop may close when tofu sells out.
Make a Dorogawa circuit that can return to the bus
Visit Nara gives the address as 258 Dorogawa and says to take the Dorogawa Onsen-bound bus from Kintetsu Shimoichiguchi to its last stop. A September 2026 visit report estimates a six-minute walk from that stop along the main town street. The prefectural record lists 08:00–16:00, Wednesday closed, and closing upon sellout; the later report also describes additional Tuesday closures in November and December and a roughly year-end winter break. Neither substitutes for a current operator announcement or a phone check. Make the food stop before a longer cave or spring walk, and look up the return bus first. The village street has other tofu and medicine sellers: confirm the shop sign and 258 address rather than using a generic 'meisui tofu' pin.

Dorogawa Gyoja Festival
Dorogawa's Gyoja Festival recalls the village welcoming back En-no-Gyōja, the legendary founder of mountain ascetic practice. Tenkawa Village describes the August 2–3 programme as including oni and comic dances, and Ryūsen-ji lists its annual August 3 programme. The village's 2023 report describes a busy public festival with many performers and tourists but gives no attendance figure. The festival is centred on Dorogawa's streets and approach to the temple, not inside Menfudo Cave or the Eco Museum Center; check the next year's route, times, traffic and weather notices.
