Ōmori no Sato offers a different Totsukawa night from a staffed onsen hotel. Local residents operate two renovated self-catering units high above the village office, with kitchens and bathrooms but no meals included in the displayed base rates. The site describes a former school nearby and a view of the Musashi mountain hamlet; the municipality still lists the lodging at 487 Musashi. Its appeal is the quiet of a lived-in settlement, but that also means a narrow final road, a long walk from the bus and no receptionist permanently on site. Treat the enquiry form as a request, not a confirmed booking.
Choose between two very different spaces
The operator calls its smaller unit Gyōzen and caps it at two guests; the listed floor plan includes a small living area, private bath, toilet and terrace. Yakemine is the larger unit, capped at four, with a dining kitchen and its own bath and toilet. The operator lists cooking equipment, Wi-Fi, bedding, towels and a washing machine, plus a wood-burning stove only in Yakemine. It says both are non-smoking and do not accept pets. Confirm which unit and actual sleeping setup you have booked, because the photos, capacities and per-person pricing do not apply interchangeably.
Sort out food, rate and confirmation in advance
The operator's room table states that food is not included in the basic overnight price and points to optional breakfast or experience arrangements. Its posted rates vary by unit, occupancy and weekday/holiday, but the page gives no visible current-price revision date, so they are examples to reconfirm rather than a guaranteed quotation. Check-in is listed as 15:00–19:00 and check-out at 10:00. The site's enquiry form explicitly says submission does not complete a reservation; for arrival within three days it asks guests to telephone. Ask for a written accepted booking, final total, cancellation terms and any meal or dietary arrangements.
The final climb is part of the journey
The operator puts Ōmori no Sato at 487 Musashi above the Totsukawa village office. It estimates roughly forty minutes on foot uphill from the Totsukawa Village Office bus stop, or about ten minutes by car on a very narrow mountain road. Its approach instructions and form recommend arriving in daylight. A pickup is not automatic: the operator says it will look for a village driver only after a request, may be unable to provide one and asks for a proposed stop time when booking. Confirm the current bus, pickup acceptance and vehicle suitability before setting out; a map pin is not the driveway.
Respect a residential hamlet and its heritage
The lodge sits by the former Musashi school; the operator describes a local Ōodori dance held in the old schoolyard. That historic and communal context is more meaningful than treating the settlement as a private set for photographs. The operator says residents run the accommodation while living their own lives and are not always present at the property. Do not enter the school, neighbouring homes or fields without permission, and do not promise that a dance or archive room can be seen during an arbitrary stay. Ask locally for this year's event arrangements.
