Kashihara Navi Plaza is a city tourism and community centre immediately by Kintetsu Yamato-Yagi Station. Opened in 2011, it now combines visitor advice for Kashihara and central/southern Nara with local products and civic spaces on upper floors. For an international traveller, the first-floor concierge is more useful than the building's old directory label as a cycle-rental point: staff advertise multilingual assistance and can help turn a vague idea about Fujiwara or Asuka into a route with current transport. Luggage storage has its own hours and conditions, and the former in-house bicycle hire has ended.
Use the desk to test a realistic itinerary
The operator describes a tourism concierge offering multilingual guidance on travel, food and local experiences, including access to licensed guide interpreters. A printed map or personal suggestion can be a good starting point for Fujiwara Palace, Imai-cho and Asuka, but check live bus departures, closure days and the final return before setting off. The associated tourism organisation locates the desk around one minute on foot from Yamato-Yagi Station and lists a 9:00–19:00 guidance window; the building itself publishes 8:30–19:00, so do not assume staffed advice begins as soon as the doors open.
Store luggage under the actual service rules
The centre's English service page lists temporary storage at ¥1,000 per item per day, paid in advance, with acceptance from 9:00–17:00. It asks for contact details and issues a claim ticket needed for collection. Picking up after 17:00 adds another day's ¥1,000; after the 19:00 building close, collection resumes from 9:00 the next day. The operator lists a maximum of seven days including deposit day and excludes passports, valuables, computers, fragile goods, perishables and certain oversized or heavy items. Confirm the full terms and suitability at the desk before dropping a flight or train bag.
See regional products without confusing the shop with a museum
The first-floor local-products area highlights Kashihara and central/southern Nara makers. Its themed Chronicle Shelf uses history as a way to display goods, and the operator names collaborations linked to the city, including Street Fighter merchandise. This is a changing retail selection, not a permanent archaeological exhibition; inspect country of origin, food labels, actual price and stock before buying. Upstairs floors also host civic services and event spaces with their own admission or reservation rules, so a tourism visit does not include all activities in the building.
Do not follow the former bicycle-hire listing
The old Nara Prefecture directory categorises Navi Plaza as bicycle rental, and an older city tourism page still shows a 700-yen day cycle. The centre announced that its Kashihara Navi Cycle service ended on 23 March 2026. It announced a separate share-cycle port in July, but that does not revive counter hire or validate the old tariff. If a bicycle matters to the day, ask the desk which independent service currently operates, its registration method, live bike stock and return areas before planning around it.
Arrive by rail and budget for parking if driving
The centre is at 1-6-8 Naizencho near Kintetsu Yamato-Yagi. It has no customer car park. Its access page directs drivers to paid municipal parking, and explicitly says the one-hour civic-use parking validation for floors three to five is not provided for ordinary tourism use on floors one and two. Confirm a station exit and crossing on arrival rather than treating the directory pin as the exact concierge doorway. If accessibility matters, the city lists a lift and related facilities, but ask the centre for the precise route to the tourism desk.
