The Kintetsu Nara Station Tourist Information Center is a practical first stop for visitors arriving by rail. It sits on the first floor of the station building and provides more than maps: staffed English and Japanese help runs during the day, while tablets and printed brochures remain available later in the evening. The city also lists a currency exchange machine, free Wi-Fi, limited luggage storage, wheelchair loans and bus-pass sales. These services have separate hours and limits, so it is useful to decide what you need before arriving instead of assuming the counter remains staffed until closing.
Separate building access from staffed help
Nara City states that from August 1, 2026, the center is open 09:00–22:00 every day, with possible year-end and New Year changes. Staffed tourist assistance runs 09:00–17:00. From 17:00 to 22:00 the facility is unmanned, but visitors can use in-house tablets and browse pamphlets. The earlier Visit Nara listing still shows a 19:00 closing time, so the city's newer dated notice is the source to use for this schedule.
Ask about routes, events and the day's logistics
The city describes the desk as a place to gather information about Nara and the wider prefecture. Staff can help visitors find event notices, sightseeing areas and onward transport; English and Japanese are the languages explicitly confirmed by the current city page. The directory has mentioned other languages depending on who is on duty, but do not plan around a language that is not guaranteed. For a specific bus departure, compare the advice with the operator's live timetable and stop information.
Use the practical services before their cutoff
The city lists free Wi-Fi, a currency exchange machine and a pamphlet area. Luggage storage is limited and listed for 09:00–16:00, with intake ending at 14:00; the page does not publish its fee or guarantee spare capacity. Wheelchair loans and bus-free-pass sales are listed 09:00–16:00. Ask staff directly about availability, deposits, return terms, eligible passes and payment before relying on any of these services.
Find the counter inside the station building
The address is 28 Higashimuki-nakamachi, on the first floor of the Kintetsu Nara Building. The center is connected to Kintetsu Nara Station, so you do not need to cross town to reach it after leaving the train. If you arrive at JR Nara Station, this is a separate station; use the current city-loop bus, taxi or a roughly 20-minute walk between stations rather than following directions for the Kintetsu exit.
Know when to use the neighboring city office
For phone enquiries, the center lists 0742-24-4858; if the line is difficult to reach, Nara City directs visitors to the Nara City Tourist Information Center at 0742-27-2223. The station center is an orientation and travel-information point, not a hotel reception or a guaranteed same-day reservation service. Confirm accommodation, luggage and mobility arrangements with the provider before traveling.
