LAMP BAR is a central Nara cocktail bar whose own concept connects the history of spirits with the routes by which alcohol travelled across the world. Its three named spaces—Mirror Room, Main Room and Traveling Room—use reflection, cocktail-making and vintage luggage as parts of that idea. The owner, Michito Kaneko, opened the bar in 2011 and won the 2015 World Class Bartender of the Year title, according to his profile and the official Nara travel directory. The operator's page presents original cocktails as compositions with ingredients and a story, rather than a fixed conventional list. This is an evening bar, so plan it as an adult night-time stop and confirm the current service and price before setting out.
Read the room through its three concepts
The operator names the spaces Mirror Room, Main Room and Traveling Room. Its 'around the world' concept links spirits to the development of distillation and to trunks once used to carry them. The travel-guide directory describes a counter and two booths, while the operator's career page says the 2015 move expanded the venue from 12 to 26 seats; layouts and capacity can change, so neither figure promises a particular seat. The atmosphere is intentionally low-lit and intimate. Ask staff if you need a specific seating arrangement, and do not assume that a large group can be accommodated together.
Order by flavour or let the bartender guide you
The operator's website says guests can choose a cocktail to suit the occasion and highlights drinks using ingredients associated with Nara. Its published examples explain the idea: 'The Beginning' uses two whiskies, lapsang souchong tea syrup, marmalade, lemon and a saline element, while the listed 'Savorys' combines Nara sencha and tomato with vodka, cacao and tea. Another operator example, Burdock Lamp Negroni, uses burdock, grapefruit peel and Nara cypress in its house-made bitter blend. These are examples on the site, not a promise that every drink is available on every visit. Since the directory says there may be no conventional menu, tell the bartender a flavour, base spirit, strength or budget and ask the price before ordering if you need to manage cost.
Understand the award without expecting a performance
The operator's profile records Kaneko's 2015 World Class win and says he opened LAMP BAR in December 2011 before relocating in 2015. The award helps explain why the bar is known internationally; it does not mean a particular award-winning drink or the owner himself will be available on a given night. Visit Nara's 2026 'Nara by Night' listing also features the bar among late-night cocktail stops. Treat the visit as a working bar experience, not a scheduled demonstration or tasting class.
Check the door time, charge and payment first
The official Nara travel directory, last updated 28 November 2025, lists 17:00–01:00 Monday to Saturday, 17:00–23:00 Sunday and a ¥500 table charge. It lists Amex and JCB, but not a complete current payment policy. The operator's current homepage confirms the address and telephone but does not publish hours or prices in its accessible text. Because late-night service and holiday schedules can change, call 0742-24-2200 on the day or check the operator's latest notice. Ask whether the table charge, card minimum, last order or a reservation applies before entering.
Make this a short walk from Kintetsu Nara
The address is the first floor of Iseya Building at 26 Tsunofuricho. Visit Nara estimates a three-minute walk from Kintetsu Nara Station; the route is in the central shopping-street area, so use a current map from your station exit and look for the building entrance rather than relying only on the approximate map pin. JR Nara Station is farther away; check a walking route or local bus for your starting point. The cited sources do not establish parking, step-free access, English service on every shift or a current reservation method, so confirm any of these needs directly.
