Kamaiki is an udon stop in the Higashimuki shopping arcade, close enough to Kintetsu Nara Station for a meal before entering the park. The shop says it cuts noodles each morning and boils them as guests arrive. Its menu lets a visitor decide between warm dashi, dipping udon, bukkake, curry and chilled zaru instead of treating 'udon' as one fixed dish. The owner site is the strongest source for its current displayed menu and address; a January 2026 local feature reports lower prices for several of the same dishes, so no web-listed number should be treated as a guaranteed bill. Check the order and opening day with the shop if timing or dietary ingredients matter.
Pick a noodle style before a topping
The restaurant describes fresh-cut noodles cooked to order. Its website separates dashi udon in soup, dipping noodles with a separate broth, concentrated-broth bukkake, curry bowls and cold zaru. The operator's menu marks warm or cold availability for each dish; for example, its basic dipping udon can be served either way, while the plain zaru is cold. A traveller can use this structure to choose a lighter bowl in summer or a hot one before an evening walk. Tempura options include shrimp, chicken and chikuwa fish cake; names such as 'soy-milk dipping' or 'grated radish bukkake' do not establish vegetarian stock or allergy safety.
See the displayed price range without assuming it is fixed
On the operator's menu viewed 19 October 2026, plain zaru and grated-radish bukkake are displayed at ¥880, curry udon at ¥950, basic dipping udon at ¥1,120, and shrimp-tempura bukkake at ¥1,600. A local interview published January 2026 printed ¥830 for zaru and bukkake and ¥880 for curry. The site and article therefore disagree, probably because menus or publication timing differ; the operator's displayed amounts are planning references only, not verified checkout prices. Ask staff for the current bowl and any extra charge for larger noodles or toppings. The operator also lists a larger hotpot udon at ¥3,500 per person, which is a different meal choice rather than a normal single bowl.
Understand the broth and food restrictions
The owner site sells a packed stock made with katsuo, sōda-katsuo, urume, mackerel, dried sardines, kombu and dried shiitake. This demonstrates that fish products are central to at least that product; it does not prove the exact recipe of every bowl, but it is reason not to assume a vegetable-named udon is vegan or vegetarian. Wheat in the noodles, soy in sauces and possible shared fryers also matter for allergies. The shop's menu names some toppings in English, yet translations do not replace a direct ingredient check. Ask for a current allergen answer and a separate preparation plan if medically necessary.
Fit a meal into the arcade's two sittings
The shop website lists 11:00–15:00 for lunch and 17:00–21:00 for dinner, with evening last order 20:30; it also warns service ends when ingredients sell out and says closures are irregular. A January 2026 local feature adds lunch last order 14:45, but the owner page does not specify it, so use a call rather than walking in just before 15:00. The owner estimates a two-minute, 202-metre walk from Kintetsu Nara Station to Higashimuki-minamimachi 13-2. This is an arcade shop, not a door at Nara Park; walking onwards to the park, museum or temples takes more time. Payment, reservations and step-free entry are not confirmed by the owner pages reviewed.
