Mia's Bread moved to 1215-5 Takabatakecho in summer 2024. The maker describes a business that began in a small kitchen, opened professionally in 1997, returned to Naramachi in 2017 and then moved east to its present shop. Its breads, sandwiches and café remain current, but an older prefectural travel-directory record still points visitors to a previous Tsubaicho address and describes an even older Heijo-area layout. Use the operator's 2026 calendar, menu and Takabatake access page for an actual visit.
Buy bread when the selection is strongest
The current operator FAQ says loaves and other breads finish baking from about 8:00 to 11:00. The monthly calendar says selection is broadest around 10:30 and the shop may close early when sold out. The same FAQ says newly baked bread is not pre-booked as a future order, but an item already available can be held by telephone on the day. That is different from advance ordering a sandwich. Check the day's line-up and current opening calendar before making a bakery stop the main reason for a long walk.
Choose a sandwich with its ingredients in mind
The café menu lists toast sandwiches, bagel or muffin sandwiches and thick toast. Its all-vegetable toast sandwich was listed at ¥1,450 and the all-vegetable bagel or muffin version at ¥950 on the October 2026 research check; both still require ingredient and cross-contact confirmation for vegan or allergy needs. Other examples include ham, cheese, egg, shrimp and chicken. The menu mixes Japanese and English ingredient labels, but prices and fillings can change; order the actual item rather than treating an old prefectural 'vegan' tag as a guarantee.
Keep table booking separate from food ordering
The operator's FAQ says the café operates 8:00–16:00 with a 15:00 order stop and a one-drink requirement. It says café menu items can be reserved but seats after 11:00 cannot. Early café use before 11:00 is limited and should be requested at least a week ahead. A separate advance-order form for sandwiches and sweets now asks for about one week, noting that an older three-day rule was changed because closed days made it unreliable; it may accept a smaller pickup on shorter notice. Call or use the current order form for your specific date and wait for confirmation before counting on a prepared box.
Check the 2026 calendar, not an old directory schedule
The shop's October 2026 calendar shows regular Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday closures, with possible special openings or closures. It describes the store as opening from 8:00 and closing between about 16:00 and 18:00 depending on sell-outs, while its access page more generally says 11:00 until evening and describes reserved café use before 11:00. The calendar and FAQ are better for planning than that broad access-page line. The operator's 2026 calendar also marks 20 October as a regular closure. The old prefectural 11:00–17:00 Tsubaicho listing is not the current venue.
Reach the Takabatake entrance responsibly
The operator gives 1215-5 Takabatakecho and estimates a 25-minute walk from Kintetsu Nara. It recommends the city loop bus from either Kintetsu or JR Nara to Wariishi-cho, then a short eastward walk. Only one customer parking space is listed on the east side of the shop; do not occupy the neighbouring property's entrance. A map point from OpenStreetMap identifies a bakery at this address, but the shop's own access map and signs should decide the final approach. Ask directly about step-free café seating if needed; the older directory's seating description is from a former site.
