HAJIMARI is built around the idea of a beginning: the operator places the guesthouse in the historic Yamato basin, within reach of Asuka and the Fujiwara Palace site, and presents it as a starting point for exploring Nara. This makes the location especially useful for visitors who want to spend time among the ancient capitals and rural heritage of central Nara rather than sleep only in Nara City. Kintetsu Yamato-Yagi Station is a practical interchange for the Osaka and Kashihara lines; JR Unebi Station is another walkable option. The guesthouse opened in 2019, according to its Japanese official site. It is a small shared house, not a full-service hotel: bathrooms and common facilities are shared, and the operator asks guests to check current room availability and seasonal rates through its reservation system.
Choose between tatami, beds and dormitory
The operator lists five room types: Japanese-style and Western-style private rooms, a larger Japanese room, and female-only and mixed dormitories. Its posted English room page checked 20 October 2026 lists sample nightly prices of ¥3,900 for one guest in a small Japanese room, ¥4,400 for one guest in the Western room, ¥16,800 for the large Japanese room, and ¥2,800 per adult in a dormitory. Rates vary by season and the live booking calendar takes precedence. Children under 13 have a separate rate; the guesthouse says it does not accept children under six in its English reservation terms. Confirm room-specific occupancy, child rules and the total before booking.
Use Yamato-Yagi as a central-Nara base
The operator gives a nine-minute walk from Kintetsu Yamato-Yagi Station and 13 minutes from JR Unebi Station. Its route guide also describes access from the Kansai Airport limousine-bus terminal at Yamato-Yagi. HAJIMARI's own attraction guide estimates travel times to places including Imai-cho, Fujiwara Palace Ruins, Kashihara Shrine, Asuka and Tanzan Shrine; those estimates distinguish bicycle trips from rail/bus time and exclude some station access and transfer waits. Treat them as orientation, then check a current transport planner for your date. A short local stay can pair the guesthouse with Imai-cho's preserved merchant-house district and the archaeological landscape of Asuka.
Expect shared-house facilities and small-group etiquette
The English site lists free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, non-smoking rooms, two shared shower rooms, laundry, luggage storage by advance arrangement and a common lounge. Paid bicycle rentals and a small number of reserved parking spaces are also listed. Guests make their own beds; the operator asks people to keep noise down at night. Check whether the common room, luggage drop and bicycle are available for your dates instead of assuming hotel-style 24-hour services. The accommodation accepts card or cash at check-in according to its terms, while booking and cancellation conditions can differ by room and reservation channel.
Know the check-in and cancellation terms
The operator's current Japanese booking terms give check-in from 16:30 to 22:00 and check-out by 10:30, while its English reservation page says 16:00–22:00 and before 11:00. Both pages show cancellation charges beginning within six days of arrival and reaching 100% on the arrival date. Ask the guesthouse which language-page terms apply to your booking, especially if you need an early departure or expect to arrive late. The house is in a residential neighborhood, so arrive quietly and follow its instructions for shared bathrooms and common areas.

Nara Marathon 2026
The 17th Nara Marathon is scheduled across two days. The 2026 Expo is planned for December 12, 10:00–20:00, and December 13, 07:00–15:30, in a temporary area in front of Rohto Field Nara. The organizer describes food and product sales for runners and general visitors, exhibits, hands-on activities and stage programming; the current notice does not state an admission fee. The mini race starts at 14:00 on December 12. On December 13, the marathon and pair relay start at 09:00 and the World Heritage 10K at 09:30. The official start/finish and runner check-in venue is Rohto Nara Konoike Park. The organizer's 10K route description confirms that runners pass through Nara Park, along the Kasuga Taisha approach and by Tōdai-ji; the full course also meets the park's deer at its early and late stages. The park is route context, not the race's start or event venue. Runner registration windows have passed; Expo attendance is separate from runner entry. Road restrictions are planned on December 13, so check the organizer's traffic-control map before travelling or choosing a viewing point.

Asuka Half Marathon 2027
The organizer confirms a 21.0975 km half marathon from 09:00 to 12:30 on March 14, 2027, with a first-come capacity of 3,000 runners. The general entry filled on October 9, 2026, well before its original December deadline; the organizer's notice thanks applicants but does not publish the final number of accepted runners. The course starts and finishes at Kitora Tumulus Shijin-no-Yakata and passes the Tenmu and Jitō tombs, Kawaradera, Tachibanadera, Ishibutai, the Inabuchi terraces and Takamatsuzuka-area roads. This is useful to spectators and anyone planning to visit these sites that day, not an invitation to enter. The start/finish is a 20-minute walk from Kintetsu Asuka Station; there is no participant parking, road restrictions begin near the venue at 08:00, and station-area congestion is expected. A free general-visitor shuttle runs from the venue back to Asuka Station from 10:00 to 14:00, but not before the race. Check the organizer's latest access and course notices before travelling.
- Time
- Race: 09:00–12:30; roads near the main venue restricted from 08:00
- Admission
- Runner entry was ¥6,000; the general entry reached its 3,000-person cap and closed October 9, 2026. No spectator admission fee is stated.
