Shigisan Kanko Hotel gives a practical base for a slower visit to the mountain temple: sleep in a Japanese-style room, eat a seasonal meal if it is part of the chosen plan and use the hotel's hot-spring baths. It also accepts day visitors for bathing or reserved lunches. These are different products with different time, price and transport conditions. The operator's room guide is unusually candid about stairs and room baths, so the right room choice matters as much as the view.
Choose the building as well as the room
The operator lists 32 non-smoking rooms in its main East/West building and ten rooms in the separate Hana building. Some East Wing rooms have no private bath and require steep stairs from the third-floor front desk; the East Wing has no lift to those rooms. Renovated West Wing rooms have lift access to certain floors, while Hana's second-floor rooms are stairs-only. Confirm the exact wing, floor, bedding, private bath and route to the communal bath with the booking team, especially for limited mobility.
Distinguish an overnight bath from day bathing
The natural hot spring is in the main building. The operator's hot-spring page currently offers day-use access 11:00–15:00, with last reception at 14:00, for ¥1,500 cash per person; it lists ¥1,000 for customers who use either of its restaurants. The current Official Nara Travel Guide also mentions a café customer rate of ¥1,500, but the operator page does not describe that café as qualifying for a bath discount, so confirm if planning to use only the café. Face towels are sold for ¥200 and bath towels rented for ¥300. School groups, private use or an unexpected closure can interrupt day access; the hotel asks visitors to call the previous day or day of use.
Book a meal plan for the actual date
The hotel advertises seasonal meals, lodging packages, group dining and a restaurant, but its menus and room prices change by plan and date. An old summer day package is not an everyday offer. Use the operator's live booking calendar or call for the exact meal, dietary requirements, child arrangements, cancellation terms and whether dinner or breakfast is included. No fixed overnight price is shown as a promise here.
Check which restaurant is open and what a meal includes
The operator's current facility page lists the casual restaurant O-hashi at 11:00–15:00, last order 14:30, with same-day seating rather than advance table reservations. Its displayed set-meal examples are ¥2,530–¥3,300 including tax; single items and drinks cannot be ordered alone. The separate Hō no Sato room restaurant lists 11:00–15:00 on weekdays and until 17:00 on weekends/holidays, also without reservations, and requires stone steps at the entrance. Menus and hours change around New Year and cherry-blossom season; check the live notice for your date and explain allergies before ordering.
Reserve the correct Oji pickup
The hotel's access page lists a JR Oji north-exit shuttle at 15:00 or 16:00 for overnight guests, only with advance reservation; it explicitly says no bus runs when nobody has booked. A separate reserved lunch-plan shuttle leaves Oji at 11:00 and returns at 14:30 or 15:30. Do not assume that the temple's public bus, the hotel shuttle and the Ikoma Cable are the same service. Confirm pickup point and return before relying on a hotel transfer.
Check the final steps from parking to lobby
The affiliated ¥500 car park is not at the front door: the operator says a stairway rises from the lot to the hotel. Overnight guests and people with a booked day plan can have the ticket processed at reception; day visitors who use the café or restaurant receive separate parking discounts, but bath-only users do not. From 31 December to 5 January the parking rate is ¥1,000 without discounts. The access page says there is no discount for a bath-only visit. Travellers who cannot manage stairs should ask the hotel about vehicle drop-off and a step-free arrival route before driving.
